ABK seeks cooperation

SEPPA, Dec 30: A team of Adi Baane Kebang (ABK) led by its president Kangir Jamoh today visited  Bhalukpong and Seppa and urged the administrations to take every step for tracing out the missing doctor Okit Peyang.

It its meeting with the East Kameng Deputy Commissioner, the ABK team sought every support and cooperation for searching out the missing doctor. During the meeting the DC readily agreed to do so and briefed them of the activities taken so far in search of missing doctor by the District Administration. ABK team further  demanded the local administration to register the case suo motto.

The ABK team also held meeting with EAC and DFO Bhalukpong and the team sought permission for rafting team for conducting search operation within the restricted area of wildlife sanctuary. It was informed that the search committee has been constituted under the chairman of Er. Aju Khunjuju, President Sajolong Welfare Society and search operation began today through rafting in Kameng River at Tipi and Bhalukpong area.

The Arunachal Pradesh Doctors’ Association (APDA), the apex body of doctors in the state expressed shock and surprise over ‘missing’ of its member Dr. Okit Peyang, since 20th December. He was inducted into AP Health Services (APHS) in May 2013 and was posted at Bana, East Kameng district.

The APDA appealed to all general public of East Kameng, police department and district administration to extend full cooperation to trace the missing doctor.

The APDA also shares shock and sadness with the family of Dr. Okit Peyang.

 

AAPKU moves CM on farmers’ problems

ITANAGAR, Dec 30:   All Arunachal Pradesh Kisan Union (AAPKU) today claimed that the state level monitoring committee for the Schedule Tribes and Other Forest  Dwellers (recognition of forest rights) Act 2006 is totally non-functional and sleeping over the rights of forest dwellers.

In its representation to the chief minister the union further claimed that due to non-functioning of such nodal agencies the forest dwellers are deprived from their rights, whereas the government of India has enacted Act for forest dwellers. The union also urged the CM to revitalize directorate of agriculture marketing so that farmers could sell their products in the market to sustain their livelihood.

It claimed that director of marketing is unable to chalk out marketing policy and failed to create marketing linkage for rural farmers.

Claiming that lack of irrigation is major factor for rural farmers to produce crops in adequate quantity, it sought for allocation for renovation and reconstruction of irrigation projects for the greater interest of rural farmers.

Meanwhile, the union claimed that the CM’s office assured  to look into the grievances raised by the organisation.

 

Lengri Niki Sii-Donyi Polo Yullo Festival celebrated

ITANAGAR, Dec 30: The 3rd Lengri Niki Sii-Donyi Polo Yullo Festival of Abotani Nibu (priest) was celebrated at Mangha Middle School, Upper Subansiri district from December 22 to 26 last.

Organized by All Arunachal Pradesh Abotani Nibu (priest) Welfare Association (AAPANWA), Daporijo Unit, more than 100 priests participated in the festival.

It was aimed at protecting, promotion and preservation of rich cultural heritage among the priest.

Apart from the priests, more than 500 people from all walks of life attended the celebration. Cultural troupes from various communities enthralled all.

President Lok Sabha Youth Congress Arunachal West Parliament Dekto Yekar, President AAPANWA Hari Taro attended as chief guest and guest of honour.

 

Yachuli bandh on Jan 6

ITANAGA, Dec 30: Reiterating its demand for the reopening of Potin to Doimukh road, The All Yachuli Students’ Union (AYSU) has decided to go for its first phase of 12 hours 16th Yachuli Constituency bandh on January 6 next year.

In its intimation to the Lower Subansiri DC, it expressed that the failure to address its demand on various occasions has led to the democratic movement.

Its other demands include immediate shifting of ADC office from Yachuli to Division Commissioner, Yachuli and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) office from Ziro to Division Commissioner, Yachuli.

 

Fire engulfs three houses at Sangram

ITANAGAR, Dec 30: Claiming that three houses includinga Pepsi Wholesale Godown were gutted down in a fire accident at Sangram in Kurung Kumey district on December 24 last, the All Kurung Kumey District Youth Organization (AKKDYO) has appealed the district administration to provide immediate relief to the fire victims.

The members of AKKDYO visited the affected people and distributed relief materials.

 

Marjingla Middle School inaugurated

ITANAGAR, Dec 30: Bameng MLA cum parliamentary secretary PWD and ST Kumar Waii on December 28 inaugurated the newly constructed Marjingla Middle School at Marjingla in East Kameng district.

In his brief address to the students and teachers after the inauguration of the school building, Waii encouraged the students to study hard and assured to look after the accommodation problem in future.

 

AACWA favours talks on demands

ITANAGAR, Dec 30: While endorsing the proposed 12 hours Lower Subansiri district bandh on January 3 next, the All Arunachal Contractor’s Welfare Association (AACWA) urged district administration and executing agencies of Airfield (extension works) at Ziro to come for open discussion with its district AACWA unit on its demands.

Meanwhile, AACWA urged upon all the PSUs to give top priority to local contractors. It said local registered contractors are still workless and many of registered contractors are even not getting sufficient work order for renewal of their firms due to distribution of works in state by the PSUs without floating tender at local dailies.

 

AKKDYO asks for immediate shift of FCI godown

ITANAGAR, Dec 30: Claiming that the FCI godown at Koloriang is ready for use, the All Kurung Kumey District Youth Organization (AKKDYO) has urged the district administration for immediate shifting of the FCI godown from Ziro to the district headquarters.

 

National Consumer Day observed

ITANAGAR, Dec 30: The Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Affairs Daporijo observed the National Consumer Day/Week with effect from  Dec 24  to 30 at market place under at Puchi Geko Circle HQ in befitting manner by conducting meeting, distributing pamphlets, hanging banners, pasting posters, group discussion and demonstration on consumer items.

During the week-long programme All Arunachal Pradesh Consumer Association Vigilance Secretary Adap Maling, panchayat leaders, officials, NGOs, students, traders  and  common consumer participated, according to an official release.

Fire claims two minors in Koloriang

KOLORIANG, Dec 30: Adding to the list of fire accidents across the state, another tragic incident occurred at Pakpu village under Koloriang circle in Kurung Kumey district at 9pm on December 27 last that claimed two lives.

The fire accident completely gutted down the two houses of Bengia Yapu and Bengia Yania along with all the properties. Bengia Yapu’s two minor children namely Bengia Joha (7) and Bengia Kotar (4) lost their lives in the devastating fire accident.

Police enquiry has been done and no foul play has been reported.

The district administration while expressing grief over the lost of lives has assured to extend full cooperation to provide relief to the victim’s family.

The administration has also appealed to the general public to take precautionary measures against fire accidents.

All the administrative officers of the district have been directed to take necessary steps to sensitize the public to abide by fire safety norms and to educate them on precautionary measures so that such fire incidents can be prevented, informed an official release.

Meanwhile, the Bengia Welfare Society (BWS) has expressed concern over the apathy of the district administration. No immediate relief has been provided to the victim till date, it said asking for immediate disbursement of the relief materials.

Meanwhile, the All Nyishi Youth Association ANYA) Kurung Kumey district unit has sought immediate relief and adequate compensation for the rehabilitation of the victim’s family. (With inputs from DIPRO)

 

 

Governor calls upon religious heads to discourage drug abuse, promote secular spirit

ITANAGAR, Dec 30: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma met the heads of religious institutions of Capital Complex in a ‘Sarva Dharma’ meeting at Raj Bhawan, here today.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor urged upon the ‘Dharma Gurus’ and their representatives to further strengthen the spirit of brotherhood and remove social evils in the society. He asked them to have regular meetings amongst themselves for better understanding of each other in the greater interest of the people.

Stating that drug abuse is destroying the future generation, Governor called upon the religious heads to discourse against it as a social responsibility towards the future generation.

Highlighting nature’s bounty of the State, Governor emphasized on promoting preservation of environment by them.

Governor appealed to the Dharma Gurus to maintain and promote the secular spirit of Arunachal Pradesh, which is a unique feature. He said that as preached in every religion, the religious heads must continue to promote peace, respect each other, help the poor and underprivileged and stand against injustice.

Representatives from temples, mosques, Gompas, churches, Gurudwara and indigenous faiths attended the meeting. They also shared the principal teachings in their respective religions.

Preparations in full swing for Tang Memorial Football

Capital Complex will take on West Siang in opener

ITANAGAR, Dec 30: The preparations for the 13th Tadar Tang Memorial State Level Football Tournament, 2013-14 scheduled to be held at Rajiv Gandhi stadium, Naharlagun from January 11 to 20 is going on in full swing.

Organizing Committee Chairman Bamang Tago told that his team is working hard to make the tournament a grand success.

Altogether, 13 teams, including Lower Subansiri, Kurung Kumey, Tawang, East Kameng, Papum Pare, Upper Subansiri, Lohit, West Siang, Upper Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, East Siang, Anjaw and Capital Complex are participating in the tournament which will be played in league cum knock-out format.

The teams are divided into four groups.  Defending champion Papum Pare are in group “B” with Upper Subansiri and Lohit. Group “A” comprises Lower Subansiri, Kurung Kumey, Tawang and East Kameng while Group “C” comprises Capital Complex, West Siang and Upper Siang. Lower Dibang Valley, East Siang and Anjaw have been clubbed together in Group “D”.

The inaugural match will be played between last year’s runners up Capital Complex and West Siang at 1 pm.

Chief Minister Nabam Tuki will inaugurate the tournament as chief guest.  All India Football Federation (AIFF) vice president and Shillong Lajong FC MD Larsing Ming Sawyan will be the guest of honour of the inaugural function.

The organizing committee, in a meeting today, decided to introduce dope testing of players from this year. It has also decided to request AIFF to depute a set of referees, preferably from Meghalaya or Manipur, for smooth conduct of the state’s top soccer tournament.

Meanwhile, Organizing Committee Chairman Tago, who is also the Political Secretary to Chief Minister, took seriously the non-participation of few districts in the tournament.

Working Committee Chairman Likha Topu suggested the meeting to involve the district/capital administration in the tournament. He also requested the members of the organizing committee to discharge their assigned duties sincerely.

Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA) general secretary and overall in-charge of the Committee G Doke, NIS trained coach Kipa Bharat also gave some valuable suggestions.

Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Ninong Ering will be the chief guest of the closing ceremony on January 20 next.

 

 

EDOS and EKSWCO make effort to clean Seppa

ITANAGAR, Dec 30: The Education Development Organizing Society (EDOS), East Kameng unit in collaboration with East Kameng Socio Welfare and Cultural Organization (EKSWCO) today successfully conducted a mass social service at Seppa and Pampoli town to pay tribute to Lt Nicham Sonam here. In the event students and teaching fraternity from various schools of Seppa and its periphery took part. Early in the morning, students equipped with brooms, spade, and other cleaning material swung into action. In the blink of eye enthusiastic students swept the town clean and burnt down some other combustible garbage and filled up potholes in the road.

Ajit Tajo Sonam, a member of Green Pioneer group who assisted in organizing the event appealed to the shopkeepers and house dwellers to help maintain cleanliness so that the message of the young kids doesn’t go in vain. “We should not litter as to keep our town clean and one should feel their responsibilities to maintain it,” he said.

At the end of the day Acho Tajo Sonam, Social service secretary of EDOS announced the winner of best worker team which will be awarded in the inter school meet starting from 3rd to 5th  January next. Meanwhile Govt Secondary School New Seppa headed by Headmaster Kocho Jomoh was adjudged best worker team followed by Govt Sardar Vallabbhai Patel school type II headed by Sunday Tungi while Govt primary school Type I and Govt ME school Pacha bagged the 3rd place and JNV seppa won the consolation prize.

President of EDOS EK Unit Ajeet Pordung expressed gratitude to all the teaching staffs of various schools and students for their active participation in event and he also expressed his resentment over the few senior officials for not cooperating in the event. “While we are doing some voluntary social activities without getting any profit we expects the motivations from our senior people but few has let us down,” he added.

PASIGHAT, Dec 30: Quality education is the pillar of national development, said  Union Minister of State Ninong Ering while attending the 17th Annual Day of Donyi-Polo Vidya Niketan School, Pasighat here at the Solung Hall, last evening. He said education is more than reading and writing and in reality it is one of the most important investments a country can make in its people and its future to reduce poverty and inequality. The mission should not be limited to studying and getting good marks but to discover new things which increase students’ knowledge. Education helps people to work better and can create opportunities for sustainable and viable economic growth. The main importance for good education is to equip students with all information they need so as to make their dreams come true. A person becomes perfect with education and therefore it is being paid increasing attention by the government. It encourages transparency, good governance, stability in life and helps to fight against graft and corruption, added Ering in his deliberation.

The Chief Guest advised the teachers to be punctual and dedicated while shaping the future of the students and called upon the students to be hardworking and sincere in studies. In his motivational speech Ering asked them to be involved in coo-curricular activities too in their daily routine to develop personality and physical fitness.   The UMoS gave away prizes and certificates to the achievers and responding to a memorandum submitted by the school authority seeking security wall, he assured to take up the issue with the ministry of human resource development.

PPA lambasts Govt on price rise, demands strict regulation

ITANAGAR, Dec 30: Lambasting the ruling Congress Govt on the issue of skyrocketing rise in prices of the essential commodities, PPA Working President Kahfa Bengia stated that solution to the problems especially being faced by the poor and the middle class public lie in changing the corrupt Govt and its policy makers.

Stating that regulation and deregulation of prices of the vegetables and other essential items is duty of the so called people’s first Govt, Bengia said  unfortunately, Govt and its machinery is choosing to remain as a mere spectator and “allow the unethical malpractices of black marketing and hoarding by few capitalists in Assam and Arunachal.”

According to Bengia, the genesis of the problem lie with the policy  bankruptcy of the Govt to be self-reliant and self-surplus in production of food grains and adoption of the culture of dependency on Assam. “Although the food and vegetable merchants in Arunachal and Assam do gain readymade cash, the commoners in Arunachal especially the low income group like the laborers, rickshaw pullers, and the low income group in Govt sector do face immense hardship in running their family and other educational, medical, recreational and religious needs of existence.”

Laeta Umbrey, the PPA MLA stated that the present Govt is functioning in a ‘lump sum manner’ with no vision plan to make the economy self reliant. It is only under regional model, as is the case in Sikkim, will people of Arunachal see lights of self sufficiency through emphasis on farmer centric policies on Agriculture, Horticulture, Veterinary, fishery and other allied fields,  Umbrey asserted.

Expressing dismay over poor delivery system under PDS especially in remote circles of the state, Umbrey alleged that the ‘unholy nexus’ between the contractors and the officials are the main reasons for shortage of food items in the state.

Given the small size of state’s population, the state Govt should be in a position to feed every soul especially the vulnerable sections without any hiccups. What is required is strong political will and missionary zeal to serve the unserved though sincere implementation of the provisions under food Security Bill and other centrally sponsored schemes. Umbrey further stated the need for proper coordination amongst the stake holders including administration, police, department of food and civil supplies and consumer affairs, the chamber of commerce and the consumer, public at large to see that the healthy market principle of buyers and sellers and supply and demand chains are properly maintained in the interest of all.

He also stressed that it is only under the regional Govt and leadership, the common people of the state can take a sigh of relief and be proud of being a part of the morphosis from parasite economy to a surplus economy.

Arunachalee paddlers shine in Sub-Junior National C’ship

ITANAGAR, Dec 30: Table tennis players of Arunachal Pradesh defeated some top players of the country in preliminary rounds of the 75th Cadet & Sub-Junior National Table Tennis Championship at Ajmer, Rajasthan.

Yangphey Suyang beat Chirag Kakkar of Punjab 3 – 2 sets (8 -11, 7 - 11, 11 - 8, 11 -9, 11 -9) in Cadet Boys Single while Mamuni Taniang defeated Ramva Leishangthem of Manipur 3 - 0 (11 -5, 11 -7, 11 -9) in sub-junior girls single.

Changoi Rangyang won her match against Srijita Malik of Tripura by 3-0 sets (11-2, 11-7, 11-5) in sub-junior girls.

Diana Moyong defeated Spenita Roy of Tripura 3-0 (11-7, 11-9, 11-2) in cadets girls single.  

In sub junior girls singles, Changoi Ranyang and Diana Moyong won matches against Tripura and Jammu & Kashmir respectively, informed Passang Dingla, Secretary General, Table Tennis Arunachal (TTA).

 

 

ECCEKD-sponsored  public meeting demands action against wrong doers as per enquiry committee report

SEPPA, Dec 30: A mass public meeting under the banner of “Every Concern Citizen of East Kameng District” (ECCEKD) was held at General Ground, Seppa under the chairmanship of Chandra Sono Yangfo on December 28 to discuss about irregular supply of rice and alleged unfair trade practice in FPS, East Kameng district.

Speaking on the occasion, ECCEKD chairman Solung Dodum, while explaining the need of organizing such mass public, disclosed that enquiry committee constituted by DC Seppa has submitted its report against irregular supply of rice and unfair trade practice of FPS but still no action has been initiated by the  district administration.

Highlighting the ongoing problems in PDS distribution in East Kameng district and non-fulfilment of public demands against the alleged erring FPS license holder and the salesmen of Govt co-operative society, ECCEKD secretary Dadi Sonam Tara  claimed that DC has assured the public to take action against wrong doers within 20 days after getting report from enquiry committee but “still we are waiting for action even after 20 days.”

After discussion threadbare, the house unanimously resolved that all registered FPS license should be cancelled from East Kameng district and FPS should be run by the Govt. Co-operative Society in every colonies of Seppa.

Rice should be sold at Govt. approved rate either under BPL, AAY or APL and  measurement device should be renewed every year with attaching seal by the legal metrological Department, the meeting further  resolved. The house also decided that any individual who has been illegally occupying the co-operative land should be reconstructed immediately in the same place.

The house resolved that if the demands are not fulfilled immediately the ECCEKD will go for the strike. It is unanimously decided by the public present that on 7th and 8th January, ECCEKD will conduct a bandh call along with the public of Seppa.

Meanwhile, organi-sation claimed that the DC refused to hear the matter brought to him by ECCEKD team and all colony chairmen.

 

Celebration of 125th birth anniversary of Pt Jawaharlal Nehru & INC Foundation Day

ITANAGAR, Dec 30: The celebration of the 125th Birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and 128 years of Indian National Congress Foundation Day began with various programmes at Rajiv Gandhi Congress Bhawan here on December 28 last. There will be year-long celebration of 125th Birth year of Panditji.

Large number of dignitaries including APCC president Mukut Mithi, Union Minister of State for Minority Ninong Ering, MP (LS), Ministers, MLAs, former ministers  and  MLAs, office bearers of the PCC and frontal organizations like Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, Seva Dal volunteers, NSUI leaders were present on the occasion.

The most attractive and important programme was screening of video clips on the history of Indian National Congress, life and achievement of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister and architect of modern India.  It had a visible impact on the minds of the younger generation.

The remarkable and noticeable development  was the  distribution of certificate of appreciation to the best performing DCC, BCC and most dutiful and dedicated staff of APCC.

The District Congress Committee of Lohit and 18-Palin Block Congress Committee of Kurung Kumey district were declared the best performing DCC and BCC respectively for the year 2013.

Gayatri Sonowal, Peon, APCC was awarded as most dutiful and dedicated staff of APCC for the year 2013. The awards were presented by Ninong Ering.

Other attraction of the  programme was  the  presentation of traditional  and patriotic songs and dances by cultural troupe.

 

 

Relief distributed to Lapung fire victims

SEPPA,  Dec 30: Kumar Waii, Parliamentary Secretary, RWD along with the relief team headed by Deputy Commissioner Tarin Dakpe visited the  victims of fire accident at Lapung village on Dec 29.  Other members of the visiting team included PD, DRDA, DDSE, EE RWD, ZPM Seppa East, ZPM Bameng and  PRI members .

15 families lost their houses and belongings in the devastating fire that broke out on December 6 last and they are staying at the temporary relief camp.

The team interacted with the victims family members.  While handing over the relief amount of Rs. 15 lakh  from the CM special relief fund, Waii  conveyed the message of the State chief minister expressing sympathy and sharing grief to the fire victims and his support for the rehabilitation of the victims. He further asked the PD, DRDA to provide CGI sheets to them under IAY scheme. PRI members also contributed relief items to fire victims.

While interacting with the victims the Deputy Commissioner provided immediate relief to the victims from his discretionary fund.  He also expressed his sorrow over the unfortunate incident and extended all possible help to affected villagers.   He directed the EE, PHE for immediate restoration of the water supply system which was collapsed during the fire accident.   He further advised the villagers to give sufficient spaces between the houses while reconstructing the houses. Effort to create awareness on wildlife conservation

PASIGHAT, Dec 30: The Daying Ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary authority has constituted an ‘Echo Development Committee (EDC)’ involving more than two thousands local people (as member) from the villagers surrounding D’Ering sanctuary. Most of the villages fall under Mebo sub-division. The gaon burahs of the area were recently taken on the tour to show them the rich biodiversity inside the sanctuary in a bid to win their confidence and create awareness among the villagers through them.

It is said that the government is all set to give affiliation to the EDC and the members will be stakeholder.

The wildlife park authority is taking help of the Adi Baane Kebang, the apex body of the Adi community, which has issued a directive to villagers near the sanctuary to give up hunting and poaching activities.

Meanwhile, as a part of their efforts to create awareness on conservation among the villagers surrounding Daying Ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary, the Ecological Bio-diversity Conservatory Society (EBCS), a state level body is organizing a mass awareness meeting on ‘Conservation Flora and Fauna’ at Pasighat town on January 4 next.

The chairman of EBSC, John Apum informed that the day long grass root level awareness campaign includes discussion on the subjects- “Capacity building of Echo Development Committee & Joint Forest management” and “Human-wild animal conflict and its preventive measures” with power point representation by the experts. The awareness meet will focus on enhancement of the Echo Development Committee (EDC) with special reference to the protection of wild beasts in D’Ering wildlife sanctuary and its adjoining areas.

Mebo Block Anchal chairperson Kaki Ratan, who is leading the EDC has requested all sections of the society to participate the Pasighat programme to make it grand success.

 

 

 

APSCU represents National conference at NCUI

ITANAGAR, Dec 30: The National Conference of Chairman/Chief Executives/Managing Directors of State Cooperative Unions of all over the country on Cooperative Education was held at National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI), New Delhi on December 28 last.

With the topic "With Changing Scenario in the fields of economy, trade, business, social parameters, environmental vulnerability, legislative and demographic changes, the Cooperatives need to be repositioned and required changes in its functioning and governance need to be brought out", Bengia Hemanta, Chairman and G Nyorak, Chief Executive Officer, Arunachal Pradesh State Cooperative Union (APSCU) represented the state.

In the Conference, Nyorak proposed various Schemes related to Training & Educational Development of HRD, Infrastructural Development like construction of well equipped Training Block along with modern electronic amenities for the District Cooperative Unions in the districts.

He also emphasized on the continuation of Central Sector Scheme (CSS) with a provision of more financial support, so as to enable to conduct more and more training programmes for the benefit of the entire categories of Cooperative Personnel considering the state as least developed in the field of Cooperative Sector, which is being assured for taken into consideration by the House.

Simultaneously, a Leadership Development Programme (LDP) was conducted during the same time at Pech under Toru Circle in Papum Pare district by the APSCU with the help of Chairperson, Kamchilela Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd., Pech Tana Yari. The Programme was especially for Board of Directors of Cooperatives and was attended by the BODs and Members of the circle.

 

Legal awareness camp cum literacy prog

ITANAGAGAR, Dec 30: A two days legal awareness camp cum literacy programme  was  organized jointly by the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services authority in collaboration with lawyers’ Association, Naharlagun, and  the United Friends Association, Ziro at Hija Govt higher secondary school, Ziro on December 28 and 29 at Govt secondary school, Hanoko Hong, which was attended by a large section of students, ZPMs and the Gaon Burahs and public along with the teaching staff.

Budi Habung, district and session judge, Yupia cum member secretary, Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority, Deputy Commissioner, Lower Subansiri district, Marnya Ete and Dani Belo, under secretary, Law and OSD, AP State Legal Services Authority and Komjum Tasso, chief judicial magistrate, Ziro while gracing the programme called upon all the participants to actively avail the services and facilities as provided under the legal services authorities Act. During the programme, various talks on legal topics like FIR, rights of arresteee, Lok Adalat, laws relating to women, PIL, plea bargaining, RTI made known to the participants and doubts were clarified during the course of interaction.

Police brutality at Seppa

Dear Editor,

Through your esteemed daily I would like to draw the attention of concern authorities against the erring police personnel’s who have harassed and humiliated Yamak Phassang on 30th November 2013 at Seppa town .

She was assaulted and threatened by one Sub- Inspector of police and constable of Arunachal Pradesh Police at gun point in the evening at her resident. It is very sad to inform that a helpless innocent woman was harassed and humiliated by the police at gun point which is even out of imagination. The duty of police force is to safeguard the common masses but, instead of safeguarding the people they are doing the act of goondaism and making the people insecure which are a matter of serious concern. Arms are issued to police force to protect the people and to fight against the criminal but, those police officers and officials are misusing the meaning of arms. Moreover, it is understood that even after passing of several days of incident, no action has been taken against the police personnel’s who were involved in the condemnable incident. Hence, we strongly condemned the incident which is a rare incident in the peace loving state.

Therefore, I strongly requested the authorities concern i.e; Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police East Kameng to take immediate action against the erring police personnel’s as per law so that no other police officers and officials will dare to commit such crime in future.

Discrimination against APST

Dear Editor,

This is with reference to shocking report published in your daily dated 27th Dec 2013 regarding appointment of staffs in Arunachal Pradesh Rural Bank. This is a public sector undertaking bank working in Arunachal Pradesh. So, the Government of Arunachal Pradesh also contributes to the development of the rural banks in Arunachal Pradesh. As such the bank must have a good ratio of local staffs but unfortunately this is not happening. If the recruiting officials of the bank think that Arunachalee people have no qualification and expertise then this is very unfortunate for qualified and eligible Arunachalee youths.

This is just a single example of discriminatory recruitment process. Almost all private or semi government companies like power developers, Construction Company etc. prefer only non-APST for the jobs which should be ours. If all private sector organizations start hiring only local people then it might be difficult to find a single willing Arunachalee youth unemployed.

As we all know that government vacancies in our state has ratio 80:20, this means non-APST will get 20% of vacancies but let me tell you, other states hire only local people in government sector. In Maharashtra, aspirants must write in Marathi test paper which nullifies outsiders from getting through in the test. Arunachalees are big hearted people, everyone is well come here.

This letter is not against any community, but the thing is that if we do not have much to eat then how we can offer anything to others. Through this letter I appeal to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to regulate this kind of recruitment in all sectors working in “Land of the Rising Sun” and also appeal local youths to be more aware of their rights.

Need serious consideration

In a startling revelation, the All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) claimed that M/S Smelter factory has been established at Lekhi village in total violation of many provisions of Acts meant for establishment of hazardous company. ANSU yesterday had claimed that company which manufactures lead and ferro alloys materials emits most hazardous substances in form of dust, fumes and residues. Union also asserted that smoke emitted from factory and waste materials in the form of residues are very hazardous and pose danger to health and environment.

The issue raised by ANSU needs serious consideration. It has been noticed that ever since this factory came up at Lekhi village, the people living around have complained about health problem. There is also report that many new born babies have started suffering from numerous respiratory disorders. It is a laid down norm that hazardous factory is not established within the village area. The ANSU has given 60 days ultimatum to M/S Smelter factory to shift out from present location, failing which they have threatened to take their own course of action. The government should interfere and find a mid-way solution.
